A community platform built around volunteerism, connection, technology and meaningful participation across Africa.
SokoAI is a community outreach platform of Quest Technologies Ltd, created around a simple idea: meaningful connection can open access to people, knowledge, technology and opportunity.
The platform grew from the experience of its founder, Louis Gichuru Mburu, an ICT Engineer with more than 25 years of experience. Through his work, he observed a persistent disconnect between communities and access to emerging technologies and the practical knowledge needed to use them.
That experience helped shape the idea behind SokoAI: a platform through which people from different parts of the world can connect with opportunities to contribute, learn and volunteer in African communities.
Louis's experience has shown him that people facing difficult economic circumstances can sometimes begin to break through barriers with practical access to technology — including something as basic as a mobile phone — together with the knowledge and confidence to use it.
SokoAI is built around the belief that connecting people, skills, technology and opportunity can create practical pathways for participation and community support.
Volunteer Africa is intended to make meaningful participation accessible to people with different backgrounds, skills and interests. Whether someone is coming to Africa for a short-term experience, professional exposure, learning or a desire to help, there can be a pathway to explore.
SokoAI exists to connect people who want to spend time in Africa helping others with organisations, communities and programmes where their participation can be meaningful.
The wider Volunteer Africa platform now provides pathways for volunteers, interns, clinical participants, researchers, gap-year participants, professional experiences and purposeful travel across its initial East African destinations. Visitors can explore programmes and pathways before deciding how they want to participate.
